Sustainable Farming Practices | Napa Valley

This 55-acre vineyard sits in the heart of Oakville, nestled between the Mayacamas Mountains and the Yountville hills. Positioned atop an ancient alluvial fan formed by a historic stream that deposited layers of volcanic rock, quartz-feldspar, and deep-sea sediments from the Sierra Arc. The vineyard has well-draining, gravelly soils typical of West Oakville. Warm days, cool nights, and the cooling influence of morning fog and breezes from San Pablo Bay create a long, even growing season that allows for balanced, consistent ripening.

Hand Harvested | Hand Sorted

The 2023 harvest in Oakville, Napa Valley, is characterized by many vintners as a “once-in-a-decade” or “legendary” vintage, benefiting from a long, mild, and consistent growing season that allowed for extended hang time. Following a very wet winter and cool spring, which replenished water reserves and delayed bud-break, the summer lacked significant heat spikes, resulting in grapes with high natural acidity, pure fruit expression, and well-developed, fine-grained tannins.

Sustainable Farming Practices | Napa Valley

Tucked into the heart of Rutherford on the valley floor’s eastern bench, this historic Napa Valley site is rooted in soils shaped by ancient alluvial fans—layers of gravel, sand, and loam washed down over centuries from the surrounding mountains. These well-draining soils naturally limit vine vigor, producing small, intensely concentrated berries ideal for crafting structured, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon.

The vineyard benefits from a classic Rutherford climate: warm, sun-filled days that drive full phenolic ripeness, balanced by cool evenings and gentle marine influence that preserve acidity and freshness. Subtle variations in elevation and exposure across the rolling terrain allow for nuanced ripening, adding complexity and depth to the fruit.

Wines sourced from this site consistently express a signature profile of dark blackberry and cassis layered with notes of cocoa, graphite, and fine earth. The tannins are polished yet persistent, often described as the hallmark “dusty” texture associated with Rutherford delivering both power and elegance. The result is a wine of balance, structure, and longevity, reflective of one of Napa Valley’s most storied and pedigreed growing regions.

Hand Harvested | Hand Sorted

A long, slow ripening season with late, cool weather meant harvest extended into November. This created a perfect, gentle, and consistent season with high-quality, above-average yields.

The wines are described as fresh, “electrically” colored, complex, and lush, with a, particularly, intense fruit-driven profile due to the long hang-time.

Sustainable Farming Practices | Napa Valley

Set on the sun-drenched valley floor of Calistoga, this vineyard is rooted in well-drained, volcanic soils shaped by the northern reaches of Napa Valley. Warm daytime temperatures drive full ripening, while cooler evenings rolling in from the surrounding hills help maintain balance and freshness in the fruit.

The site consistently produces bold, expressive wines with ripe blackberry and dark plum flavors layered with hints of spice, earth, and subtle minerality. Firm yet approachable tannins and a rich, structured profile make this vineyard ideal for crafting powerful, fruit-forward wines with depth and character.

Hand Harvested | Hand Sorted

The 2023 vintage in Calistoga and throughout Napa Valley unfolded as a long, late-season harvest marked by exceptional quality. Abundant winter rains replenished the soils, setting the stage for healthy, vigorous vine growth. A consistently cool growing season followed, allowing for extended hang time that enhanced phenolic development while maintaining balanced, moderate sugar levels.

With minimal heat spikes, fruit ripened gradually and evenly, enabling a deliberate, methodical harvest pace. Despite the wet start to the season, mildew pressure remained manageable, avoiding the early-season challenges often associated with higher rainfall years. Ultimately, harvest extended into the final week of October, yielding fruit of remarkable depth, structure, and balance.

HOWELL MOUNTAIN – CABERNET SAUVIGNON

TASTING NOTES

Deep layers of blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, and cedar notes. Hints of spice and earthiness complement its dusty texture, creating a complex and richly nuanced wine.

Located over 1600 ft above sea level, the soils are rich in volcanic ash, tuff (a type of volcanic rock), and decomposed rock. This creates a porous, nutrient-poor environment, which stresses the vines and forces them to root deeply in search of water and nutrients, contributing to concentrated fruit.

The mild spring growing season promoted even bud break, while cooler nights helped preserve acidity in the grapes.

Several heat spikes occurred during summer, but cooler fall weather extended hang time, resulting in more concentrated and well-structured fruit.

Mount Veeder’s rugged terrain and high elevation helped shield vineyards from the worst of the summer’s heat spikes. While some heat did accelerate ripening, the cooler nights played a key role in slowing down sugar accumulation and maintaining balance in the grapes.

The cooler fall weather helped extend hang time and reach optimal phenolic maturity. This resulted in a more refined fruit profile, with enhanced flavor complexity and structure.

Sustainable Farming Practices | Napa Valley

Tucked along the eastern edge of Napa Valley, this vineyard lies just off Silverado Trail within the Oak Knoll District AVA, a region celebrated for its balance of structure and elegance. The site benefits from a gentle valley floor slope with subtle undulations, allowing for excellent air drainage and consistent sun exposure throughout the growing season.

Soils are predominantly gravelly loam layered over clay, offering both drainage and water retention—ideal for controlled vine stress and steady ripening. Afternoon breezes funneling up valley from the San Pablo Bay naturally moderate temperatures, extending hang time and preserving acidity. Morning fog lingers just long enough to shield the fruit from early heat, while warm midday sun ensures full phenolic development.

The resulting wines are defined by precision and approachability, showcasing vibrant red and black fruit, lifted aromatics, and supple tannin structure.
